Natural Diamonds
THE 4 C’S
If you haven’t got an idea of the types of diamond you want or can afford, you’ll need to know the basics – the 4 C’s.
#1 CUT
The shape of the diamond based on how it is cut. For example, brilliant(round), princess, asscher, emerald, cushion, heart or pear-shape diamonds, as pictured here. When buying a diamond, look for a stone that is not too shallow or not too deep.
#2 COLOUR
The colour of the diamond determined by the different gasses present during the crystallization. These range from D to Z, D being colourless and Z being the most coloured.
#3 CLARITY
Diamond clarity refers to the inclusions found in the stone. The better the clarity the more valuable the diamond is.
#4 CARAT
The weight or mass of a diamond is measured in Carats. 1 carat = 0.2 grams. The higher the carats the more valuable the diamond is.
